An ETF or fund is a vehicle. Look through the wrapper to its holdings, replication method and concentration.

  1. What is the index or investment mandate?
  2. How is it replicated, and at what cost?
  3. Where are the liquidity and concentration risks?

  1. Where do revenue and margins come from?
  2. How does profit translate into cash?
  3. What competes for that cash: debt, investment or distributions?
